Report from the Committee for the Future of Postal Services
Article | Last updated: 26/02/2025 | Ministry of Transport
While letter volumes have declined sharply and parcel deliveries have increased substantially, the fundamental structure of the service - nationwide mailbox distribution - remains largely unchanged. In response, the government has established a committee to evaluate necessary adjustments to ensure postal services better reflect actual needs and optimize the use of societal resources.
The Committee for the Future of Postal Services was established by the government in January 2024. As postal service usage has changed considerably, the traditional model of nationwide mailbox distribution has remained largely unchanged. The decline in letter volumes contrasts with a significant rise in parcel deliveries.
Consequently, the government has tasked the committee with assessing the necessary changes to align postal services with current demands while ensuring the efficient use of societal resources.
