Cabinet minister Karianne Tung attends summit on artificial intelligence in Paris

Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung has been invited to attend the AI Action Summit in Paris on 10 and 11 February which will be hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. US Vice President J. D. Vance, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are among the participants.

Heads of state, representatives from the European Commission, UN officials, and top executives from a wide range of tech companies and organisations from over 30 countries are gathering in Paris to discuss how the world can responsibly and securely use AI. Last year, a similar summit was held in the UK.

“Norwegian participation in international arenas where AI is discussed is more important than ever. We will take advantage of the opportunities offered by AI for private citizens, the public sector, and trade and industry. At the same time, we must ensure that the development upholds fundamental democratic values and basic rights. This is something I will contribute to when the international regulation of AI is discussed,” says Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung.

The AI Action Summit is being organised at the initiative of President Emmanuel Macron, and India is a co-organiser. Approximately 1000 representatives from the private and public sectors are expected to participate. The summit aims to highlight the impact AI will have on society and sustainability.

The cabinet minister will also be accompanied by a Norwegian trade and industry delegation. The delegation will visit the French company Mistral AI, which develops large, open language models and aims to democratise AI by making advanced AI tools accessible to everyone.
